The work package has focused on a limited number of (representative) pathogens that threaten the safety and quality of food derived from cattle, swine, chicken, and Atlantic salmon. This includes pathogens such as Salmonella, E. coli (EHEC) and the bovine mastitis pathogens (Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus aureus, Streptococcus uberis, E. coli).

WP Objectives:
-
The identification of genes, gene products, and molecular pathways of animal hosts involved in host pathogen interactions and to better decipher their function
-
The identification of genes, gene products, and molecular pathways of animal pathogens involved in the interaction with the host and to better decipher their function
-
The definition of the regulatory Networks, which determine the quality of the animal’s host response and the outcome of an infection
-
The definition of regulatory Networks, which determine the virulence of a pathogen in an animal host
-
The acquisition of insight into the molecular basis of the variation in host response and susceptibility for infectious diseases (interaction with WP6).
Joint research plans for Salmonella, Mastitis, E. coli, and fish pathogens.
-
Define required standards in functional genomics studies (link to WP1.1 WP1.2, WP1.3, and WP1.4).
-
Preparation and distribution of DNA microarrays (link to WP1.1).
WP Achievements:
- Working groups on Salmonella, mastitis, E. coli, and ISAV/IPNV
- Comparative transcriptomic studies in hosts and pathogens
- Identification and characterization of virulence factors
